New Roscommon Writing Award: shortlist

The shortlist for Roscommon County Council’s NEW ROSCOMMON WRITING AWARD 2020 has just been announced.

Adjudicator Orlagh Kelly, proprietor of The Reading Room Bookshop in Carrick on Shannon, has selected a shortlist of ten stories from the fifty-eight stories entered. Rhona McGrath, Arts Officer, is pleased to congratulate and announce the shortlisted writers (one of the writers has two stories on the shortlist):

Carol Beirne, Anne Byrne, Helen Cunningham, Margaret Deehan, Emer Fitzpatrick, Michael Fox, Susan Graham, Evelyn Kileen McCrann, Marita O’Flanagan.

The adjudicator had no prior knowledge of the names of the entrants, as all entries were numbered, with care taken to ensure the entries remained anonymous.

Prize winners will be announced in September. The winner will receive a prize of €500 from Roscommon County Council and will be officially named the NEW ROSCOMMON WRITER OF 2020. The winning entry will be published in the Roscommon Herald and an extract of the story will be broadcast on the Charlie McGettigan Saturday Connection Show on Shannonside FM. The four runners-up will receive a prize of €100. This award is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland.
