Oran make it two wins from two

ORAN 0-18

ST FAITHLEACH’S 0-13

Save for a slack period in the second quarter, Oran were deserving five-point winners against St Faithleach’s at Kilbride on Sunday as they racked up their second win in the group.

Pat Regan’s men played with the breeze in the opening half and were much the better team in the opening quarter. Two-pointers from Ciaran Lawless and Darragh Walsh, the latter from a free, helped them on their way and by the 16th minute they led by 0-8 to 0-2.

Faithleach’s got a grip around the middle of the field after that and shot five points without reply to trail by only one at half-time. Ciaran Murtagh kicked three, two from frees, and with the breeze to come in the second half, a 0-8 to 0-7 half-time scoreline looked very positive for Faithleach’s.

Whatever was said to the Oran players at half-time worked, however, as they were much better after the break. Points from Ciaran Lawless, Charlie Carthy and James Fitzpatrick opened up a four-point gap by the 35th minute and Oran never looked back.

It was 0-15 to 0-9 after 48 minutes and, although Diarmuid Murtagh, from a free, and Jonathan Hussey kicked two-pointers in the final ten minutes, Oran were always comfortable, with Darragh Walsh pointing a two-point free for them with two minutes remaining.
