Enfield pupils thank Julia following residency

Pupils and teachers from Enfield NS this week issued a thank you to silk batik artist Julia following her term as artist in residence at the school in a scheme promoted by Roscommon County Council arts office. ‘Being aware that the aesthetic is no optional addition to the school curriculum, but the very heart of it, the teachers chose silk batik artist Julia Kelly to embellish the walls of the school and to enrich the lives of both children and teachers with the craftsmanship and tradition of the silk artist,’ said John Brennan, Principal. |For the duration of Julia’s tenure at the school, the building became a companion, a participant in the creation of a work of art for each child to take home. Art, literature and music devoted to rural life seem to have one overriding theme, which is the ineffable peace that clings to the landscape. Artist Julia Kelly and the children of Enfield School created vibrant and unique works of art that will adorn the walls of the school for many years to come. Each child also took home at least one work of art special to that child, a memento of happy days at school.’ The staff and children at Enfield, being aware ‘that the thoughts of youth, are long, long thoughts’, would like to thank Roscommon County Council for funding the project and also to thank Julia for her dedication beyond the mere fulfilment of a contract. ‘Memories of the enjoyment the children got from the experience of working with a professional artist will remain with them forever and may even lead them to further explore their creative talents,’ concluded John Brennan, Principal.
