Strokestown’s first Cabaret Festival will take place next week, bringing three evenings of music and entertainment to the Percy French Hotel from Tuesday, August 4th, to Thursday, August 6th.
The festival will feature national and local performers across a wide range of genres, including country, traditional, folk, rock ’n’ roll and swing.
Organiser Eugene Murphy, who is marking one year of hosting live music in Strokestown, said it had long been his ambition to bring regular live entertainment to the town.
He also thanked the Percy French Hotel for its support since the project began last year.
The festival opens on Tuesday, August 4th, with Keith, Lorraine and Frankie McDonald, who have previously attracted large audiences to the venue. They will be joined by Shannonside Northern Sound presenter and singer Paul Carrington, entertainer Gerry Keenan, Longford swing singer Owen Smith, and young Roscommon singer and guitarist Tara O’Connor.
Wednesday, August 5th, will be dedicated to traditional and folk music, with performances from Michael Banahan, Arigna singer Aoife Duignan and the Loughnenane Céilí Band.
The Siobhán Feeney School of Dancing and a number of other local performers will also take to the stage.
The festival concludes on Thursday, August 6th, with showband star Dave Lawlor, Cavan singer Kevin Logue, Down country singer Mary Hoey and special guest Mags McGagh of Downda Road Radio.
A special accommodation offer is available at the Percy French Hotel, while several local B&Bs and other accommodation options are also available.
Visitors staying in the area can explore attractions including the National Famine Museum at Strokestown Park, Sliabh Bawn, Rathcroghan and Elphin Windmill.
