€30,000 artwork planned for Roscommon Town’s Park Lane

A new €30,000 public artwork is to be commissioned for Park Lane in Roscommon Town as part of the award-winning Living Laneways programme.

Roscommon County Council is inviting proposals from artists on its Public Art Artist Panel for the project, which will focus on the pedestrian route linking Market Square with Loughnaneane Park and Roscommon Castle.

Park Lane, also known locally as Jail Lane, runs alongside the historic Old Gaol.

Artists are being asked to develop proposals responding to the history, heritage, biodiversity and community stories associated with the area.

The selected work will form part of wider enhancement works along the lane and is intended to create a distinctive route drawing pedestrians from the commercial centre of the town towards Loughnaneane Park and Roscommon Castle.

The commission has a budget of €30,000 and the closing date for proposals is November 9.

The project forms part of Roscommon’s Living Laneways programme, which has used public art to transform a number of laneways around the town.
