A documentary featuring well-known Roscommon GAA historian Tony Conboy will be shown during the upcoming Boyle Arts Festival.
The screening will take place from 3 pm on Saturday, July 25th at King House in Boyle.
‘Roscommon GAA History Down the Decades’ will feature GAA historian Tony Conboy in conversation with interviewer Ronan Carley, the latter a native of Fourmilehouse.
The featured visuals will comprise of excerpts from Roscommon games down the decades, beginning with the Roscommon v Kerry All-Ireland final of 1962, the first final that was transmitted on Irish television, and continuing through to the 1980 final, when the same two counties met. Numerous newspaper clippings of Roscommon games and players will also feature.
Tony will focus on the 1939-’51 period when Roscommon won three minor, one junior, and two senior All-Ireland titles. This is the period during which the late Jimmy Murray led the team on five occasions in All-Ireland finals (including replays).
The 1970s was also a great period for Roscommon when they won four Connacht titles in a row and contested the All-Ireland of 1980.
This documentary promises to be a broad and detailed story of Roscommon football, and the many other branches of GAA Games.
