Young people in Ballaghaderreen are being invited to get creative this August as Creative Places Ballaghaderreen hosts a free five-day Creative Youth Week.
Taking place from Monday, August 17th to Friday, August 21st, the programme is open to young people aged 13 to 17 and will offer opportunities to explore photography, clay, drawing, painting, mapping and a range of creative experiments.
Based at the Community Resource Centre, The Shambles, Ballaghaderreen, the week will run from 12 noon to 4 pm each day, with participants also heading out into the town as part of the programme.
Creative Youth Week will be led by local artists April, Elisha and Tuesday, who bring experience across visual art, theatre, music, performance, photography and creative facilitation.
They will also be joined on two days by Sparkcatchers!, the Tuam-based collaborative arts duo founded by multidisciplinary artists Jojo Hynes and Midie Corcoran. Sparkcatchers! work with young people, communities, schools and organisations through creative workshops and events.
At the heart of the week is an opportunity for young people to explore their own creativity while sharing their ideas about Ballaghaderreen and what they would like creativity and the arts in the town to look like.
No previous artistic experience is required. Instead, participants are encouraged to bring curiosity, imagination and a willingness to experiment.
There are just 16 places available, with priority given to young people living in Ballaghaderreen and the immediate surrounding area. The programme is completely free, with places funded by Creative Places Ballaghaderreen.
Applications can take a creative form, with young people welcome to respond in writing, through drawing or by video. The application deadline has been extended to Saturday, August 15th.
