Following the success of its Songs that Built a Nation show at Roscommon Arts Centre in June, Roscommon Solstice Choir is preparing for a busy programme of performances this autumn.
The choir will bring the show to Backstage Theatre in Longford on Wednesday, September 9th and Thursday, September 10th.
Written by Roscommon playwright and historian Tommy Murray, Songs that Built a Nation explores key moments in Irish history from 1798 to 1921 through ballads, songs, poetry, music and speech. The production has been warmly received for its innovative and refreshing approach to telling the story of this pivotal period in Irish history.
Later in the month, the choir will perform at the 12 noon Mass in the Basilica at Knock on Sunday, September 27th. It will be a special occasion for the group, which last performed at the Basilica in 2017.
From October 3rd to 8th, choir members will travel to Medjugorje, where they are due to perform at a number of events and venues. Performing both at home and abroad has been a hallmark of Roscommon Solstice Choir since its foundation in 2013.

On their return, members will turn their attention to rehearsals for the choir’s popular Christmas concerts. This year’s concerts will take place in Ballygar on December 4th and Granlahan on December 11th.
The concerts form part of the choir’s ongoing fundraising work for local causes and charities, which has raised more than €400,000 to date.
For many supporters, the annual concerts have become a much-loved part of the festive season and are regarded as the beginning of their Christmas celebrations. Further details on the Christmas concerts will be announced closer to the dates.
