Free saplings offered to schools for National Tree Day

Primary schools in Roscommon are being invited to take part in National Tree Day on Thursday, October 1st, with 2,000 free Scots pine saplings offered to schools nationwide.

Organised by the Tree Council of Ireland and supported by Glennon Brothers, this year’s event has the theme ‘Planting for the Planet’.

The initiative encourages children to explore the role of trees in supporting wildlife, storing carbon and protecting the environment.

Schools can mark the day through planting, nature walks and classroom activities.

Teachers can find educational resources, information about Scots pine and details of the free-tree offer at treeday.ie.

Schools interested in a sapling should check availability through the website.

Glennon Brothers, established in Longford in 1913, is supporting the initiative for a second year.
