Country music star Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.
Parton died on Tuesday, August 25th, following a brief battle with cancer, according to a statement from her representatives. She died at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton became one of the most recognisable figures in country music during a career spanning almost six decades. Her best-known songs include Jolene, 9 to 5 and I Will Always Love You, while she also enjoyed a successful career in film and television.
Parton was also widely known for her philanthropic work, particularly the Imagination Library, the book-gifting programme she founded to provide free books to children. Tributes have been paid to the singer from across the music and entertainment industries following news of her death.
