The Féile na Sionainne Festival in Athlone on the August bank holiday weekend, July 31st to August 2nd, promises to be full of Irish music, song and dance, showcasing Athlone’s history, heritage and culture over the weekend in various venues around Athlone.
Now in its fourth year, Feile na Sionainne is building on what they have achieved since starting in 2023. It has been gaining even more momentum, and is one of the most anticipated events in the Athlone calendar.
The programme promises to have several performances, which will include two open air stages as well as multiple pub sessions. There will be a number of inclusive events and workshops including music therapy sessions and an inclusive trad disco for children and young people with additional needs.
The launch night of the actual festival takes place Saturday, July 25th. The opening event is ‘Devil’s in the Dance Hall’. Expect to be transported back in time to a 1930’s dancehall and experience the roar of the Gralton Big Band. This takes place in Moore Hall at 8 pm.
Venues for the full festival stretch across Athlone, to name just a few; The Canopy, The Sheraton Hotel, and St Kieran’s community centre. The festival runs alongside the Athlone River Festival, promising a busy weekend with both festivals offering many events over the same period of time.
