Youth charged with father’s murder

An 18-year-old youth who appeared at a sitting of Ballyhaunis District Court yesterday (Wednesday) was charged with the murder of his father, Thomas Cunningham Senior, at their home in Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon on August 22nd, 2007.    Thomas Cunningham (18) was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court in Castlerea on this Friday at 11 am.    The body of Mr. Cunningham Senior was found in the garden of his home on the outskirts of Ballinlough on Thursday morning, the 23rd of August last at approximately 9 am.   At a special sitting of Roscommon District Court held on the day after the discovery of the body Thomas Cunningham (Junior) was charged with assault causing harm.    He was subsequently released after a court hearing in Ballyhaunis three months later.   Thomas Cunningham Junior appeared ‘by arrangement’ at Castlerea Garda Station on Wednesday of this week and was taken to Ballyhaunis Court where he was charged with the murder of Thomas Cunningham Senior.
