Young hurlers tame Mayo

U-17 Celtic Challenge Cup: Roscommon 4-16 Mayo 2-12

The young hurlers of Roscommon and Mayo played out an entertaining game in Ballyhaunis last week when the superior finishing skills of Roscommon decided the issue.

Ben McGahon and Mickey Joe Egan grabbed first-half goals to help Roscommon into a 2-10 and 2-6 half-time lead.

The second half was well contested until Conor Grimes scored a fine Roscommon goal with ten minute left to play and then when Matthew Comerford’s long-range effort went all the way to the Mayo net close to the final whistle, Roscommon had sealed a good win.
