Yellow snow and ice warning for Roscommon

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Snow and Ice warning for Roscommon, which comes into effect this morning (Thursday) from 8 am.

Rain, sleet and snow is expected to arrive from the south of the country during the afternoon and extend across Connacht during the rest of the afternoon and evening, with snow accumulations leading to hazardous conditions.

It will be windy and very cold with highest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees, with an added wind-chill factor due to fresh to strong southeasterly winds.

Following the Status Yellow warning, the Road Safety Authority has advised all road users to take extra care for the remainder of the week.

Snow accumulations of up to 5cm are expected to make driving conditions extremely dangerous in some places and road users are urged to check local traffic and weather conditions before setting out on any essential journeys.

The RSA advises drivers to remove all snow from vehicles prior to travel, clear windows and mirrors, reduce speed in snow and icy conditions, and leave extra distance between your vehicle and the car in front.

Pedestrians are advised to wear high visibility clothing and appropriate footwear and to take care using footpaths.
