Gary Wynne is one of the people who makes the GAA tick. A very successful club and county star, Gary was not content to abandon the game when his career ended and instead went into coaching, starting with club jobs and then in the past two years moving on to the county scene. Last year he managed the Roscommon U-16 team to success in the Fr. Manning Cup and then when Fergal O’Donnell and his backroom team decided to step down from the minor team management, Gary and his selectors were asked to do the job for 2008 – and with the experienced Jimmy Deane joining the backroom team, Gary set about trying to regain the Connacht title and keeping Roscommon competitive at minor level. It’s been a long year for Roscommon minors so far, and after plenty of shadow boxing, it’s now down to the Connacht semi-final against Galway on Saturday next in Tuam (at 7 pm). Last Sunday I spoke to Gary about the season so far and particularly Saturday evening’s big game
