A committee has been set up in the Boyle area to arrange a weekend of events around the arrival of the World Rally Championship in the area on the weekend of the 16th to the 18th November. This will be the first time ever that part of the World Rally Championship will be held in Ireland. On Friday 16th November a stage of the Irish leg (which is based in the north-west of the country) will be held between Drumshanbo and Arigna. The World Rally Championship features the best rally drivers in the world and it is expected that over 200,000 visitors will come to Ireland to see the action over the three days. It is also expected that over 50 TV companies will be sending television pictures all over the world. Paul Wynne is one of the committee members in Boyle. ‘We are only at the planning stage at present but we are hoping to hold a number of special events in the town to celebrate the rally being in the area. ‘There is a lot of accommodation already booked in the town and we will be holding a number of events in conjunction with the rally.’
