‘Tis the season to buy Irish-made gifts!
Rita Oates, who has run ETL Craft & Giftware with her husband Michael since 1986, says businesses in Roscommon are now more interconnected than ever before.
“I never noticed it before but businesses in Roscommon town seem to feed off each other,” she said, “Businesses are very much interconnected here and so you have the knock-on effect that if Rogue & Co is busy, for example, then we are busy too”.
ETL, like many other businesses in Roscommon town, employs local staff and uses local services and suppliers. This means that customers who shop local are supporting more than just a single business.
“We have been here for 36 years and we have employees who have been here for a large proportion of that time too. Supporting local shops means you are supporting local workers and their families too and that’s more important this year than ever before,” Rita added.
Rita and the team at ETL are also big believers in supporting local creators and artists and the shop features some of the very best in Irish-made craft and giftware.
“As well as our photography services and the whole range of thoughtful gifts that can come from there, we also stock Roscommon-themed gifts which are a great idea for people who may be away from home this Christmas.
“We also have jewellery from Mayo’s Alan Ardiff; Enibas’ gold and silver from Cork; and gemstones by Juvi. Aine McConnell from Ennis also does beautiful knitwear and so too does Donegal Design. They are wonderful gift ideas this Christmas,” Rita said.
ETL also stocks a wide range of Irish artwork from artist such as Drumshanbo’s Artwood and Athlone’s Button Studio.
Rita, also a talented artist, has created a whole range of ‘Irish Heart’ cards and prints which would be the perfect gift for those loved ones who are unable to make it home for Christmas this year.
“We also have a wide range of books, both for children and adults. The Jelly Cat range is particularly popular with children because not only do they get the book but they also get a stuffed toy which goes with the story too,” Rita said.
While ETL Craft & Giftware stocks all main brands including Galway Crystal, Newbridge Silverware and Tipperary Crystal, the eyes are immediately drawn to some of the colourful creations sourced from local artists.
“We do our best to source original items and because of my own background I always try to support local artists.
“At ETL we have always prided ourselves on finding rare goods too and Michael and myself have been to places like London, Birmingham and Frankfurt in order to source gifts that are thoughtful and different,” Rita said.
If it’s thoughtful ideas you are looking for this year then ETL Craft & Giftware has a range of items that will make Christmas extra-special both for those receiving gifts and those who created them too.
