Women’s health meeting in Glenamaddy

Issues relating to women’s health and well-being were up for discussion at a recent information meeting held in Glenamaddy Community Development Company offices in Ballyhard. The information night was attended by women from around the Glenamaddy region and the event was funded by the HSE, which was represented on thae night by Adrienne Lynam, Women’s Health Co-ordinator. Guest speakers included Mary O’Toole, a nurse based in the Galway Family Planning Clinic and Dr. Therese O’Reilly, a GP in Castlerea. Both women covered a variety of women’s health issues and a question and answer session took place after each talk. This event was organised to provide information to women of all ages within the community of the issues at hand. It also aimed to help develop a resource for young women, and to promote their health and social well-being and it is hoped that this will result in better and more informed decision making by local women. Overall, it was a very successful evening and the feedback from those who attended was that they found it very interesting and extremely useful. Glenamaddy Development Company hopes to get a chance to work with the HSE in the future to organise similar events for the community of Glenamaddy. If you would be interested in such an event in the future, please contact Glenamaddy Community Development Company (094) 96 59570 or gcdc@eircom.net.
