The woman who died following a single-vehicle road collision in Eyrecourt, Co Galway, on Saturday night (February 21, 2026) has been named locally as Kathleen Cunningham (née Ryan). Gardaí said the crash happened at Rooaun at around 8.15pm, and that the driver — the sole occupant of the car, a woman in her 80s — was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ms Cunningham was from Toomard, Newbridge, Co Galway, and was formerly of Tibohine, Co Roscommon, according to her death notice. Gardaí are continuing to investigate and have appealed for witnesses, including anyone with dash-cam footage from the area between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, to contact Loughrea Garda Station or any Garda station.
