An investigation is currently under way after a woman in her 70s died in a house fire in Co. Roscommon.
Members of the Ballaghaderreen Fire Service, assisted by personnel from Charlestown Fire Service were called to a property at Priory Park in Ballaghaderreen shortly after 9 pm last night where a fire had broken out.
There were two people in the house at the time of the blaze. A male occupant had managed to escape and was treated for smoke inhalation by fire personnel at the scene before being removed to Sligo University Hospital.
The other occupant, a lady in her seventies, was taken from the upstairs of the dwelling by members of the Ballaghaderreen Fire Unit but efforts to resuscitate the woman were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene
The area is sealed off for technical examination by Gardaí and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
