Connacht Minor Championship Roscommon v Sligo After last weekend’s draw at Hyde Park against Leitrim it’s win or bust for the Roscommon minors against Sligo in Marckevicz Park this Saturday (throw-in at 6.30 pm). Roscommon won rather easily when the sides met earlier this year in the Connacht Minor League but as last Saturday’s game shows those encounters count for nothing and the game will also afford Sligo a chance to progress to the semi-final. Roscommon found the going tough against Leitrim and they conceded two goals at vital stages of the game which was to prove crucial. Roscommon team manager Fergal O’Donnell is expecting a tough game again on Saturday. ‘Sligo will be tough, make no mistake, but we have to be confident that we can win it and hopefully we can go ahead and do that’ he said. It’s unlikely that injury victim Donie Shine will be playing. He came on in the dying stages of the game last weekend but is clearly not fit. However even his presence on the field would be a boost to the rest of the team. Another injury doubt is full-back Jack Sharkey who had to come off injured early in the second half against Leitrim. Despite the shock of drawing with Leitrim last weekend and the fact that every team now will raise their game because they want to beat Roscommon as the defending All-Ireland champions, Fergal O’Donnell’s men should be good enough to forge a win and qualify for what is sure to be a much tougher test in the Connacht semi-final.
