Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 3: Tipperary 0-21 Roscommon 1-10
The wides count of Roscommon 14 Tipperary 2 says it all as Roscommon missed a string of scoring chances in Johnstown last Sunday to hand the initiative to a economical Tipperary side in this entertaining clash. Tipperary probably deserved to win the game on play overall but Roscommon could have been much closer if they had taken their chances.
Tipperary started the game well and were very accurate when in front of goal. In contrast, Roscommon missed far too many chances. Tipp led by 0-8 to 0-1 after 15 minutes with Aisling McCarthy and Gilian O’Brien scoring some excellent points. But Roscommon came back well with Natalie McHugh playing superbly at full-forward.
Tipperary extended their lead to 12 points early in the second half but in fairness to Roscommon they kept plugging away. With 12 minutes to go Natalie McHugh converted a penalty after Sheila Brady was fouled. There were further impressive scores from Rachel Fitzmaurice, Sinead Kenny and Laura Fleming but the more accurate Tipperary girls had done enough to justify their favourites tag to win this division.
