Genealogy and Local History Conference on August 24th

Roscommon Town Team will host a Genealogy and Local History Conference and ‘Who Do You Think He Is?’ on Saturday, August 24th in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon town with registration from 9.30 am.

There will be talks and presentations throughout the day including ‘Researching Living Relatives’ with Mary Leyden; Your Town History with Marian Harlow; Sources for Genealogy and Local History with Eilish Feeley; Graveyards – A Source for Local and Family History with Mary Timoney, and much, much more.

The conference will also feature a very special ‘Who Do You Think He Is?’ at 8 pm which will result in a well-known local personality discover more about their roots!

‘Who Do You Think He Is?’ will begin with a short presentation by Eilish Feeley and Mary Leyden on their experiences using DNA in Genealogy and Family History research.

Following on from the presentation, a local mystery man will discover the story behind his family history while building his family tree. As part of this light-hearted look at the scholarly topic of genealogical and family history research, the organisers have conducted ancestral DNA profiling of this local personality. Is our man a true Rossie? Find out on Saturday, August 24th!

Admission for this event, which is supported by Creative Ireland, is €5 and booking is available through the Roscommon Tourist Office at 090-6625613, Eilish Feeley on 087-2940544 and Mary Leyden on 087-6335511.
