Westcare announces 50 new jobs for Roscommon

There was a major jobs boost for Roscommon this week as homecare provider Westcare Homecare announced 50 new jobs for the county as well as a new office in Roscommon town.

The announcement was part of 70 new jobs in Roscommon and Galway over the next 12 months and the opening of two new offices to support Westcare in the delivery of care to older persons within the local community.

Director of Westcare Homecare, Sharon Carter said: “We are delighted to announce the opening of our new Roscommon and Tuam offices. We look forward to recruiting our team from the local community to provide care to the elderly whilst helping them remain in their own home for as long as possible.

“We offer flexible and rewarding employment opportunities for healthcare staff and are delighted to announce our latest expansion plans.

“The mission of Westcare Homecare Services is to provide person-centred care to their clients and their families and this is done in a dignified and professional manner”.

Minister for Business, Employment and Retail Damien English described it as a “good day” for Roscommon and Tuam while Fianna Fáil Senator Eugene Murphy said it was a vote of confidence in Roscommon and Galway.

“Roscommon has one of the highest percentages of older people in the country and figures show that the number of people over the age of 65 is expected to reach 1.4 million by 2040, or about 23% of the total population.

“It is most welcome to see that the Government is committed to policies which support the choice of older people to live in their own homes and communities for as long as possible.

“I must also commend Westcare Homecare for their vote of confidence in the Roscommon and Galway region with the creation of these 70 new jobs which will bring a welcome boost to the area,” Senator Murphy said.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael Senator Aisling Dolan said the company was building on its strong local base.

“This is tribute to the two women who started this company, Sharon Carter and Geraldine Casserly, and it is a poignant time for the Casserly family following Geraldine’s recent sad passing.

“The expansion of Westcare Homecare and job creation in Geraldine’s home county is a fantastic legacy for her and her family to have. There is a strong local base which the company has developed to enable it to reach today’s milestone,” she said.
