Weekend previews

There are a full round of league Division 1 and Division 2 games down for decision this coming Sunday in the county and as usual it would be advisable to check with the clubs to ensure that the games are going ahead prior to travelling to the various venues.  Abbey Hotel League O’Rourke Cup Strokestown v Castlerea St. Kevins: This should be a lively affair as both sides have been playing well. A lot will depend on whether Castlerea’s county stars are able to play. Prediction:Castlerea.  Elphin v Padraig Pearses: Hard to call this one but on the basis that both sides are doing well at home, I’ll give Elphin a hesitant vote. Prediction: Elphin.   St. Aidans v Kilmore: Another tight call here. Aidans are improving after a dodgy start to this year’s league. They might just have enough at home. Prediction:St. Aidans.   St. Faithleachs v St. Barrys: A local derby that will be close but I expect Barrys to prolong Barrys losing run. Prediction: St. Faithleachs.   St. Dominics v St. Brigids: Another local derby. Brigids are definitely not firing on all cylinders but they should be good enough to win narrowly. Prediction: St. Brigids.   Kilbride v Roscommon Gaels: It’s a day for local derbies and the Gaels are flying along at the top of the table. I’ll risk the wrath of the Gaels players and go for a narrow Gaels win. Prediction: Roscommon Gaels.   Michael Holland Tyres O’Gara Cup Western Gaels v Clann na nGael: Clash of the day here. Western Gaels in Frenchpark look the better bet. Prediction:Western Gaels.   Michael Glaveys v Ballinameen: Home advantage to count here. Prediction: Michael Glavey.   Boyle v Shannon Gaels: A cracker in store here too. Nothing betweeen  them. Prediction: A draw.
