Webb ambitions dented

Roscommon U-16 Ted Webb Cup Galway 1-10 Roscommon 0-11 Roscommon’s ambitions in this year’s Ted Webb Cup were dented somewhat at a windswept Pearse Stadium last Friday evening when they lost by two points to the home side.   Despite leading by 0-3 to 0-1 at the end of the third quarter, Roscommon faltered during the remainder of the half once Galway moved impressive full-forward Ronan O’Connell to midfield. The visitors trailed by 1-6 to 0-4 at the interval but with the aid of a significant breeze on the resumption they came right back into the game and with ten minutes remaining had drawn level.   Unfortunately a serious injury to Roscommon wing-forward Scott Oates seemed to have an unsettling effect on the team and Galway finished the stronger with two late points.
