A major fundraiser supporting the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice and being held in conjunction with the 40th birthday of Rockford’s Nightclub was launched on Thursday last.
A video disco featuring hits from the 1980s and ‘90s will be held at Nancy’s Nightclub on Friday, March 25th. Seamus Duke will be the DJ and tickets are available in a number of local pubs and shops.
Speaking at the launch, Chairperson of the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice Mike Smith said that the new Hospice building in Roscommon Town will open soon and that local fundraising is now more important than ever.
“We are currently in the process of staffing the new unit in Roscommon. That is going well and we will be in a position to open it soon. However, our normal work continues…our palliative care teams are as busy as ever and our fundraising and the generosity of the public remains central to the day to day running of our service.
“Events like this one are the life-blood of the foundation and I thank Seamus Duke and Larry O’Gara for their efforts. It’s a unique idea and I hope it will be a big success”.
Rockford’s proprietor, Larry O’Gara, said that he was very happy to be associated with the event.
“We are delighted to be able to host this night out. It’s a nice way to mark the 40th birthday of Rockford’s and to support a great local cause,” he said.
DJ Seamus Duke said he was looking forward to the night: “Rockford’s has been part and parcel of the social life of Roscommon for over 40 years and it will be great to look back on some of the greatest hits of the 1980s and ‘90s. The big screen (courtesy of Brendan Nugent) is state-of-the-art. It is great to be able to support such a worthy local charity. It should be great fun and I hope it’s well supported”.
Tickets for this event are €10 and are on sale around the town and will also be available on the door on the night. There will be a late bar too. More details available on 086-8335380.
