U-16 hurlers perform brilliantly in National blitz   This year’s All-Ireland U-16 B hurling intercounty blitz took place in Mullingar last Saturday week. The event was run on the same format as the Tony Forester U-14 competition with three groups of four teams. 12 teams took part, including Roscommon. The line-up was as follows: Kerry, Roscommon, Mayo, Down, Derry, Armagh, Kildare, Meath, Westmeath, Wicklow, Carlow and Laois. Roscommon were in the same group as Carlow, Kildare and Down and the young hurlers of Roscommon who put in a marvellous day’s hurling, winning all their group matches and only looing narrowly to Laois in the semi-final. Laois went on to win the All-Ireland B title.     Great credit is due to George Coyle and his management team for all the effort they put in, and to all players on the panel who played their hearts out on the day playing against top quality opposition. This year the Roscommon County U-16 team played 8 matches, winning 6 and losing just two.
