To mark its 21 st birthday, the RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet will visit King House, Boyle, on Saturday, October 6 th . In this opening tour, the quartet plays late Schubert, Shostakovich and Beethoven at King House, Boyle on Saturday, 6 October at 8 pm. Tickets at €15 (conc. €12) are available from (071) 96 63242. The programme features three of the finest quartets by three of the greatest chamber music composers. Schubert’s Rosamunde is an appropriate look back to the quartet’s beginnings, as this was the first piece it ever recorded for CD. Beethoven’s turbulent C minor quartet serves as many a young string player’s introduction to quartets, and Shostakovich No. 3 is one of the best loved of his extraordinary series. The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet is widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest and most successful string quartets, enjoying a thriving international career in performance and recording. Appointed Resident Quartet to RTÉ in 1986, it has since given over 700 concerts in Ireland – everywhere from Sherkin to Letterkenny.
