Schubert’s Rosamunde is an appropriate look back to the quartet’s beginnings, as this was the first piece it ever recorded for CD. Beethoven’s turbulent C minor quartet serves as many a young string player’s introduction to quartets, and Shostakovich No. 3 is one of the best loved of his extraordinary series. The RTÉ Vanbrugh Quartet is widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest and most successful string quartets, enjoying a thriving international career in performance and recording. Appointed Resident Quartet to RTÉ in 1986, it has since given over 700 concerts in Ireland – everywhere from Sherkin to Letterkenny.
