U-16s’ All-Ireland dreams dashed by deadly Dubs

LGFA All-Ireland U-16 ‘A’ Championship semi-final

Dublin 7-9

Roscommon 1-12

Roscommon U-16s Ladies may not be celebrating an All-Ireland final appearance but they can be very proud of the way they performed in what was a superbly entertaining semi-final played at Kinnegad last night.

At the end of the day, Dublin were just too strong, and their ability to get goals at vital stages was the difference in the end.

The outstanding Joy Ralph scored two fine goals for the Dubs in the 11th and 21st minutes but Roscommon were always in the hunt and with Siofra Hession and Erica Hagen playing superbly around the centre, there were only three points in it at half-time: Dublin 3-4 Roscommon 1-7.

In the second half, Kate O’Toole, Anna McGrath, Lucy Ahearn and the rampant Ralph all raised green flags for Dublin. But the final scoreline was harsh on a Roscommon team who tried hard right to the finish and we will hear many of their names again in the future.
