Roscommon have started their 2024 Allianz National League campaign with a three-point loss to Tyrone at Healy Park in Tyrone. Davy Burke’s men were excellent in the first half and a superb goal from Donie Smith in the 15th minute saw them ahead by two points (1-3 to 0-4) and with Cian Connolly and Daire Cregg excellent, Roscommon were well in the hunt.
However, towards half-time Tyrone improved after they brought Darragh Canavan to midfield and they led at the break by 0-10 to 1-6. Dylan Ruane received a needless black card in the 35th minute and then shortly after half-time Conn Kilpatrick was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Davy Murray.
Despite being down to 14 men Tyrone took over completely and Darragh Canavan was simply magnificent, scoring points from a variety of angles. Niall Morgan and Brian Kennedy were also fantastic as the home side pulled away.
Roscommon improved towards the end of the game and were denied a goal in the dying seconds for a ‘square ball’ after Cian Connolly had fisted to the Tyrone net. Next Roscommon face a crucial game against Galway in Hyde Park on Sunday. Final score: Tyrone 0-17 Roscommon 1-11
