Two Gardai were injured during a serious street fight which broke out in Boyle town on Thursday night last. Up to fifteen people are understood to have fought with Gardai during the disturbances – after which three men were arrested. The trouble erupted in Shop Street at about 9.30 pm on Thursday night when a group of revellers in a public house emerged on to the street and began brawling. A spokesperson for Boyle Garda Station told the Roscommon People that the drama began on Thursday evening last when a group who had been drinking locally ‘spilled on to the street.’ Gardai asked them to move on ‘under the terms of the Public Order Act’ but they became ‘obstreperous’. A major row ensued involving ’15 or 16′ people with a number of Gardai intervening and two members sustaining injuries. One window was broken during the melee. Three males were arrested and detained over-night in Boyle Garda Station. They subsequently appeared in Court. A number of juveniles were also implicated and it is understood that many of the group were in a very drunken state. The injuries sustained by Gardai were not understood to be of a serious nature. Meanwhile the Roscommon People has learnt that Gardai in Boyle were called to Lough Key Forest Park on a number of occasions late last week. This followed a series of complaints about the behaviour of members of two families who were staying in the caravan park at the facility.
