Traffic back on west side of square from Monday

The west side of the newly-redesigned market square in Roscommon town is set to open to traffic on this Monday, July 4th.

The decision to permit traffic back on the west side, running parallel to the widely acclaimed pedestrianised area, has been met with some resistance.

However, many traders and members of the wider public are in favour of limited vehicle access, not least because it will help people to access the post office and Bank of Ireland.

News of Monday’s reopening was confirmed to the Roscommon People on Sunday by Cllr. Marty McDermott, chairperson of the Roscommon Municipal District. Cllr. McDermott welcomed the development and said it will ensure the needs of eldery people, people with disabilities, and others, are met.
