Total hospital downgrade on the cards – Feighan

Frank Feighan TD has condemned the attitude of the HSE and the Minister for Health to Roscommon County Hospital, saying the net long-term affect will lead to a total downgrade. ‘Its amalgamation with Portiuncula, with physicians being placed in Ballinasloe with only limited coverage left in Roscommon, is a disgrace. The initial cutback of available necessary physicians and the compounding of this situation leaves patients in complete doubt as to what would be available should they have to use hospital services. This is despicable. ‘Then they provide propaganda about patient safety. There isn’t much reassurance for patients on safety if they require emergency treatment and are a patient in the far north of the county. At a given time of day there will be no certainty that anyone will be available at Roscommon under the current mishmash and sham that is proposed. It is obvious that Hanly is the agenda and any light relief Ballinasloe gets will also be short-lived. This is a political decision and it is time the politicians stood up and cried halt to this plague that is the HSE.’
