Top children’s reads

This week we give you some top children’s books, from O’Brien Press which would make the perfect birthday present or a gift for a child at any time of the year. Reviewer: Pauline Connelly The Silver Notebook by Enda Wiley The Silver Notebook attracts the attention immediately with its intricate cover and the book itself does not disappoint. The story revolves around Timothy Finn, who acquires The Silver Notebook on his birthday. The adventure begins when along with his best friend Fleur, they set about solving mysteries from his own past. This is an above average read. Highly recommended. Age 9+ The Most Beautiful Letter in the World by Karl O’Neill This is another eye-catching book – the red cover looks like an elaborate envelope  and the story is a magical one about Poppy, who finds the red letter, simply addressed ‘To you’ and she reads the letter and sets off on a wonderful journey. The beautiful illustrations throughout this book add to its enjoyment. For those interested in adventure and art, they will not be disappointed with this one. Age 7+ The Story of Ireland by Brendan O’Brien This is a fantastic trip through time, again the wonderful illustrations in this book bring Irish history to life, from the Celts to the present time. History has never been so much fun!
