Toasting Dora!

A celebration of the life of Irish poet Dora Sigerson Shorter was held in Strokestown to mark Nollaig na mBán on Saturday, January 6th.

Dora, who was also a sculptor, was a strong patriot, and was said to have died of a broken heart after the 1916 uprising. Her work was discussed at an entertaining workshop led by poet James Harpur, organised by Strokestown International Poetry Festival. Dora died exactly one hundred years to the day of the workshop, held in the Percy French Hotel.
