Title for Four Roads

2007 Junior Hurling Final Four Roads ………………………………………………. 2-9 Padraig Pearses ……………………………………….. 2-4 Four Roads secured the Roscommon junior hurling title for 2007 when they had five points to spare over Padraig Pearses in a final played in terrible weather conditions at Pairc an Piarsaigh last Saturday afternoon.   The first half was a very low-scoring affair. Cyril Crosby was the scorer of the only goal of the half for Four Roads after 14 minutes and they could have got another but Conor Hynes had a goal disallowed for a square ball. However Pearses were playing well too and points from Thomas Seale and Thomas Sweeney kept them in touch. Half-time score was Four Roads 1-2 Pearses 0-4.   After early points for both sides Pearses were awarded a penalty after seven minutes. Tomas Seale had his shot saved but Thomas Sweeney followed in to score a Pearses goal to level the scores.   However with 12 minutes left Four Roads got a crucial second goal when sub John Coyne scored from close range. Then two points from Keith Waldron and David Dolan extended the lead for Four Roads. Tomas Seale gave Pearses’ hope with a goal three minutes from the finish but Four Roads had the final say with points from Dolan and Peter Tiernan.
