Gardaí in Castlerea this week thanked members of the public for their help after they issued an appeal in the wake of a theft from the eircom depot in Castlerea in the early hours of Friday morning. Three men were arrested in Castlerea in the early hours of Friday morning last after the theft of cable valued at €1,500 from the eircom depot in Castlerea. A car was seen acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the eircom depot in Castlerea in the early hours of the morning. As a result, local Gardaí attempted to stop a car, which failed to stop. The car was chased out the Ballymoe Road, down side roads, back onto the Tulsk road, where it turned off and onto the Ballinagare Road and then onto the Frenchpark Road. Eventually, on a minor road, the car drove through a farm gate and into a farmyard where three male occupants of the car took off across the field. One man was arrested at the scene and two other men made their escape. This occurred at approximately 4 am. At 8 am two men were arrested outside Frenchpark as they headed in the direction of Ballaghaderreen. Both were taken to Castlerea Garda Station for questioning. The men had addresses in Donegal, Sligo and Ballaghaderreen and Gardaí said that the three had no permanent addresses. Initially, two Garda cars from Castlerea were involved in the chase, but they were later joined by units from Roscommon, Boyle and Swinford.
