Thousands attend inaugural Roscommon Lamb Festival

Paul Hickey & Seamus Duke  Several thousand people attended the many exciting and novel events that took place in Roscommon town for the inaugural Roscommon Lamb Festival. Excellent weather complemented a splendidly innovative festival programme of events. The festival, which was launched by IFA President Padraig Walshe, was attended by people from across the county and beyond. The new Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Mary Coughlan TD, visited the festival in her then capacity as Minister for Agriculture and Food. Lamb Festival chairperson Laurence Fallon expressed great satisfaction with the Bank Holiday weekend bumper event, and he conveyed the gratitude of the organising committee to local sponsors and supporters. ‘We held the festival because we wished to raise the profile of naturally produced Roscommon lamb, and I think we achieved that. On behalf of the Lamb Festival Committee I want to thank every business and person who supported the festival,’ said Mr. Fallon. The preparation of a banquet feast by celebrity TV chef Rachel Allen was the stellar event of Roscommon Lamb Festival. More than 170 people attended this event, where Ms. Allen was reportedly very well received.
