This weekend’s local action previewed

Abbey Hotel O’Rourke Cup Kilbride v Padraig Pearses (Friday at 8.30 pm) Pearses were ever so impressive against Louisburgh in the Leo Kenny Cup final and if they can reproduce that form they will be a major player in the championship this summer. If Sean Fahy keeps up his scoring rate then Pearses could take the points against inconsistent Kilbride. Prediction: Padraig Pearses Roscommon Gaels v Kilmore (Saturday at 8.15 pm) Roscommon Gaels have been very inconsistent this season while Kilmore have been steadier. With the championship fast approaching the sides will be hoping for a run of form. This looks a toss-up. Home advantage to count?  Prediction: Roscommon Gaels St Aidans v Castlerea (Sunday at 3 pm) Aidans started the league badly but they have recovered somewhat. Castlerea are going well and they should be good enough to take the points here. Prediction: Castlerea St. Faithleachs v St. Brigids (Sunday at 3 pm) A repeat of last year’s county final and a tough game in prospect. Brigids are beginning to show signs of a return to form and I hear they are training hard. Faithleachs look a strong side but if Brigids are getting their act together they may be good enough to win. Prediction: St. Brigids St. Barry’s v Elphin (Sunday at 3 pm) Elphin had a great win over Roscommon Gaels last week while St. Barrys are playing well in almost every game in this division without too much return. Elphin are on the up and they should win. Prediction: Elphin St. Dominics v Strokestown (Sunday at 3 pm) Strokestown are shaping up well. They beat St. Brigids recently. Dominics will prove sticky opponents but the Town should be too good. Prediction: Strokestown Michael Holland Tyres O’Gara Cup Clan na Gael v Creggs (Thursday at 8.30 pm) In the first round of games Creggs scored a memorable win. Clan have improved since then but Creggs will be sticky opponents as they have a championship game under their belts. Prediction: Clan na Gael Eire Og v Castlerea (Saturday at 4 pm) Eire Og will be hoping to do well in the championship and Castlerea are doing well in this division with their second string. Home advantage to count here. Prediction: Eire Og Creggs v Western Gaels (Sunday at 5.15 pm) Football will be forgotten in this very sad week in the Western Gels club area. If the game goes ahead the Gaels should win it but  Stephen Nolan’s death puts it all into perspective. Prediction: Western Gaels
