This weekend’s action

Abbey Hotel O’Rourke Cup Elphin v St. Aidans (Friday, 7.30 pm). Elphin are flying high after a great win over St. Brigids last weekend. St. Aidans were beaten by Strokestown and will want Francie Grehan back from injury as quickly as possible. Prediction: Elphin to shade it. Roscommon Gaels v St. Faithleachs (Saturday, 7 pm). The Gaels bounced back after a poor couple of weeks to draw with Castlerea last weekend. Faithleachs are going along nicely and they were too good for St. Dominics last weekend. A close call here. Prediction: A draw.  Padraig Pearses v St. Dominics (Saturday, 7.30 pm). Padraig Pearses drew with St. Barrys last weekend while St. Dominics were beaten by St. Faithleachs. Home advantage to count here. Prediction: Padraig Pearses.  Kilbride v Strokestown (Saturday, 7.30 pm). A local derby. Kilbride have been struggling of late and were well beaten by Kilmore last weekend. Strokestown are going well and they were too good for St. Aidans last time out. Strokestown look the better bet here. Prediction: Strokestown. Kilmore v St. Brigids (Sunday, 12 noon). Kilmore had a very comprehensive win last weekend while Brigids went down surprisingly to Elphin. Kilmore will fancy their chances but if Brigids have close to a full team they should win. Prediction: St. Brigids.  Castlerea v St. Barrys (Sunday, 3pm).  Castlerea are going well and St. Barrys are finding the going a bit tough in this Division despite a very good draw for them last weekend against Pearses. Prediction: Castlerea.  Michael Holland Tyres O’Gara Cup Castlerea v Eire Og (Saturday, 7.30 pm). Castlerea are firing on all cylinders and were just pipped by Creggs last weekend. Eire Og will prove tough opposition though. Prediction: Eire Og.  Clan na Gael v Michael Glaveys (Saturday, 7.30 pm). Clan are beginning to motor now after a very shaky start. Glaveys are doing well but it looks like a fruitless long trek south for them. Prediction: Clan na Gael.  St. Croans v St. Brigids (Saturday, 7.30 pm). Home advantage should count for Croans against Brigids’ second string. Prediction: St. Croans.  Creggs v Strokestown (Sunday, 2.30 pm). Creggs have been doing well and they should be too strong for Strokestown in this fixture. Prediction: Creggs.  Western Gaels v St. Michaels (Sunday, 12 noon). Match of the day in this division. The  Gaels had a big win against St. Ronans last weekend while St. Michaels were just pipped by Clan. I’m sitting on the fence on this one. Prediction: A draw.  Tulsk v Ballinameen (Sunday, 3 pm). Not much to choose between these two. Tulsk might be just the safer bet. Prediction: Draw.
