Third time lucky for hurlers?

After two league losses to Monaghan, Rossies have score to settle!
Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A: Roscommon v Monaghan on Sunday in Athleague at 2 pm

Roscommon hurlers will be hoping to preserve an unbeaten record when they take on Monaghan in Athleague on Sunday. But it is a game that the home side should be wary about as Monaghan have beaten Roscommon twice in the league in recent years.

Roscommon have done much of their preparations indoors so far this year because of the bad weather and manager Justin Campbell says that last Sunday’s two-point win against Louth at Darver will bring his players on.

“Last Sunday was the first dry pitch we played on this year. The ball was moving faster and it took our lads a long time to get used to it. However the game will bring our players on a ton and it was great to win that game. It was all about the two points and we achieved that aim, but we have a lot of work to do.

“The game against Monaghan will be a tough one. They beat us twice in recent years in the league and they will not worry about having to come to Athleague. But we will improve and we are looking forward to playing at home.

“I was delighted for some of the young players who came on last Sunday. Gearoid Keenan played well and set up the goal. Warren Boyle also did well and Tommy Doyle came on and was very lively and scored a nice point too.

“We will be working with the same squad that we had last weekend. We have quite a few injuries and our squad is not as strong as it was last year but we are hoping to collect another two points on Sunday,” he concluded.

Given the number of players that are absent this will not be a straightforward game for Roscommon. But with the likes of Noel Fallon, Alan Moore, Peter Kellehan, Shane Curley, Micheal Kelly, Johnny Moran, Gerry Fallon, Jamie Lawlor and Liam Kilcline on board they should have enough to secure a second league win.

Prediction: Roscommon
