‘There’s a definite Christmas buzz’ – Molloy

Roscommon town businesses off to a good start!

The President of Roscommon Chamber of Commerce, Declan Molloy, has said that businesses in the county town are enjoying a great Christmas trade – despite the horrendous weather.

“There is quite a footfall,” he said. “There is definitely a buzz around town.

“There has been very positive comments that the town looks exceptionally well, with the Christmas lights. A lot of the people like the piped music around the town. They feel it adds to the atmosphere.”

Mr Molloy said that Christmas parties were proving very popular in the town, something had been very beneficial to pubs.

Not surprisingly, the torrential rain from Storm Desmond had a “slight effect” on business about ten days ago, at the height of flooding in the town.

“We lost a certain number of people from east Galway who would have come through Athleague,” said Mr Molloy, noting the Roscommon-Galway Road (N63) was closed at the village for some time.

“That is back on track now and it is noticeable that people are coming in the Galway Road yet again, which is great,” he said.
