Theft in Church ‘despicable’

The theft of an elderly woman’s handbag in the Sacred Heart Church in Roscommon on Tuesday morning has been described as ‘a despicable act’ by a spokesperson for Roscommon Gardai.    The Garda spokesperson said that the theft took place at about 10.30 am on Tuesday morning. The elderly lady was praying in the Church when the theft of her handbag occurred. Gardai are investigating. The spokesperson said that this was ‘a particularly despicable act when you take into account where it occurred.’    Meanwhile two houses were targetted by thieves in recent days. At Bolinree, Roscommon three rolls of lead and some brass nails were stolen from a house under renovation; that theft occurred late on June 23rd or in the early hours of June 24th.    Also on Monday night/Tuesday morning a house under renovation at Cloonlyon, Ballygar was targetted and some tools were stolen.
