Clann land Minor title!
Clann na nGael were the 4-12 to 1-8 winners against St. Dominic’s in the Minor Ladies ‘A’ football final last weekend. Clann pulled away in the second half but Dominic’s were only two points behind at half-time. Savanah Cassidy was the Dominic’s goal scorer while Kara Earle and Rosie Lennon raised green flags. However in the second half goals from Kara Earle and Kayleigh Shine proved the difference in the end. Scorers – Clann na nGael: R Lennon (1-5), K Shine (1-4), K Earle (2-0), D Greasely, E Hewitt and A O’Brien (0-1) each. St. Dominic’s: C Corcoran (0-5), Savanah Cassidy (1-0), A O’Connor (0-3).
Rossie defeat in Fr. Manning Cup
Laois defeated Roscommon by 2-15 to 0-16 at Johnstown and it was the two Laois goals that settled the contest in the end. Roscommon played well and led by 0-10 to 1-6 at half-time. But another goal for the O’Moore County in the third quarter left the home side playing catch up and they couldn’t bridge the gap. Best for Roscommon were Adam McDermott, Cathal Feeley, Sean Trundle, Alan Merriman and Rossa Kelly. Roscommon scorers: A McDermott (0-7), A Merriman (0-4), R Kelly (0-3) C Regan (0-2).
Boyle too strong for Kilbride
Boyle were far too strong for Kilbride in this one-sided Earley Construction MFC Division Three Final at Strokestown. An early goal from Cian Sweeney set Boyle on their way and they went on to win on a scoreline of 4-18 to 0-6. Thomas Regan converted a penalty and when Tiernan Henry scored a third Boyle goal before half-time it helped them to a 3-8 to 0-2 interval lead. James Bolger added a fourth Boyle goal in the second half. Scorers – Boyle: D Cregg (0-8), T Henry (1-3), J Bolger (1-1), T Regan and K Sweeney (1-0) each, K Morris (0-3), M King, R Conroy and M McGrath (0-1) each. Elphin kings of Junior B!
Elphin were the impressive 1-17 to 1-6 winners over Oran in the King and Moffatt Junior ‘B’ Championship final in O’Rourke Park. The key to Elphin’s win was a very strong first half showing at the end of which they went in leading by 1-11 to 1-1. Benny Rock scored a fine goal for the winners while Liam Earley replied with an Oran goal. But Elphin were always on top and they kicked some marvellous points from play. The gap was too big for Oran to bridge in the second half and Elphin coasted to victory.
