Club Classic!

Roscommon Golf Club hosted a successful Classic last weekend with over 60 teams taking part. The winning team with 96 points featured Tony Brophy (Castlerea GC), Margaret McGuinness (Strokestown GC), Frank McGuinness (Rathcore GC) and Colm Savage (Rathcore GC).

  Last week’s ladies’ competition was won by Sheila Fallon with 37 points just ahead of Joan O’Gara in second on 36 and Mary Seymour in third also on 36.

  The Roscommon Ladies team also enjoyed a win over Athlone in the Mary McKenna competition.

  The Strokestown Golf Club men have advanced to the zone final of the Interclub competition where they will play Carrick-on-Shannon.

  Meanwhile, Margaret Cox won the 3Ts competition the weekend before last and Martina Feehily finished in second place. Eileen Lyons won the Cunniffe Cup over the June bank holiday weekend ahead of Anne Neary and Kitty Dowd.

  To Athlone, where Gary Kenny (39 points) held off the challenge of Michael Downs and Liam Browne (both 38) to land the recent gent’s competition. The three recent ladies’ competitions winners were Alacoque O’Connor, Clare Dowling and Maeve Holmes.

  Lady Captain Mary O’Hara took home the President’s Prize in Boyle last Sunday with a score of 72. Tish Perry (also 72) finished a close second while Peggy Feely took the gross and Susan O’Mahony (73) finished third.

  Elsewhere, Sean Heslin won the men’s 18-hole stableford with a score of 43 points, which was just enough to see of Kevin O’Connor in second place on 42.

  The Ladies’ Junior Foursomes recently beat Ballaghaderreen to book their place in the Connacht Semi-Final.

  The Bernie Keane Memorial tournament took place in Castlerea last week with large participation in both the men’s and ladies’ sections.

  Dympna McGarry won the ladies’ prize with 39 points while Margaret Henry and Celia Mulligan (both 37 points) finished second and third respectively.

  The men’s winner was Paraic Newman with 63 nett while Michael Creaton finished second with 64 nett. Gerry McDonagh, Paddy Dolan and Padraig Casey won the various categories.

 

Pitch and Putt

Woodview winners!

There have been plenty of winners at Woodview Pitch and Putt Club recently with Teresa Naughton claiming the best nett and Helen Cunniffe claiming the best gross scores in the Ann Dolan Trophy. Doreen Greene and Mary Sheerin finished second in nett and gross respectively.

  Meanwhile, Marie Naughton and Maura Coyle won the ‘Old Pals’ competition which had been running for the last few weeks. Kitty Mitchell and Eithne Greene finished in the runners-up spot.

  Eithne Greene did taste victory in the competition played last Monday however as she took an impressive win.
