Walshe’s win
Glenn Walshe (St. Coman’s) had a good win over Sligo’s Kevin Meehan in Collooney last Saturday in their Over 35 ‘B’ Connacht semi-final. Glenn used his experience to take a very tight first game 21-18 and eased his way to a 21-12 win in the second.
Laura Mannion (St. Coman’s) lost out in her Connacht Junior ‘B’ semi-final to Sligo’s Laura Finn played in St. Coman’s on Saturday last on a scoreline of 17-21, 8-21.
Curraghaboy’s Cathal McHugh and Donal O’Connor had a good win over St. Coman’s’ Darragh O’Gara and Conor Egan in an entertaining Junior ‘B’ county final last Friday. Played in Curraghboy, the locals lost the first 21-15, but got into their groove in the second and their better teamwork made all the difference winning the two remaining games 21-14, 21-7.
The county Junior ‘C’ Doubles final will be between Curraghboy’s Peadar Kelly and John McDermott and Fairymount’s Michael Carroll and James Duffy. Both had good wins in their semi-finals last weekend, the Curraghboy pair beating Mount Talbot’s Alan Hevehan and Liam O’Ceallaigh and the Fairymount duo looking very impressive beating Curraghboy’s John Kelly and Alan Mannion.
Golf
Winter greens
We start in Boyle where wintry weather conditions resulted in many of the Spring League second round matches being postponed. The Captain’s Drive is scheduled to take place on Sunday week (25th), however.
To Castlerea next where the ladies’ club is currently running a four-week 9-hole Round Robin non-qualifying competition. Proceeds of the competition will go towards Breast Cancer Research.
There’s a new committee at Strokestown for 2018: President: Michael Cox, Captain: Martin Crinigan, Lady Captain: Margaret Walsh, Secretary: M. Crinigan / M. Walsh, Registrar/Treasurer: Ray Hogan / Vincent Caulfield, Competition Secretary: Paddy Murray and Handicap Secretary: John Leonard.
The Captain’s Drive-In will take place at Athlone Golf Club on Sunday, March 4th and all members are invited to take part.
The Ladies’ Winter League, meanwhile, has been extended until February 28th and the final will take place on Saturday, March 10th.
Recent winners in Athlone include Yvonne Walsh (22 points) who claimed the 12-hole ladies’ stableford the weekend before last and PJ Martin who won the recent AWGS competition with 28 points.

Martin is A1!
Martin Fleming claimed the 10th annual A1 Roofing Singles Darts Tournament in Spell’s Bar Ballaghaderreen last Saturday evening. He emerged from a quality field of 33 players to take the title.
Fleming beat Ross Carty 6-5 in a thrilling final after beating the in form Wayne Harries in the semi-final 5-3.
The Roscommon Darts League continued last weekend as The Holly Tree climbed to the top of the table with a 7-2 win over Creaton’s. Elsewhere, McDermott’s beat An Bothar Rua 5-4 and Flanagan’s overcame The Hollywood 7-2.
This week An Bothar Rua entertain The Forge, The Holly Tree will visit McDermott’s, Creaton’s will play host to Flanagan’s and The Hollywood Bar will welcome Molly’s.
