Golf
Whelan’s King Harmon
We begin our golfing round-up in Boyle where Mark Whelan was recently presented with the Stafford King Harmon Perpetual Cup (see champion of the week).
Meanwhile, there were wins for Michael Simon (18-hole Stableford), Jimmy Dwyer (Christmas Bonanza) and Regina McLoughlin (Ladies’ Christmas Bonanza).
To Roscommon next, where Noreen O’Grady and Clement McCormack won the Golfer of the Year awards. Jim Grogan and Jacqueline McCormack won the Christmas Hampers and there was plenty of other silverware handed out for victories throughout the year too!
The 2019 committee was elected in Athlone and we wish new club captain Bryan O’Looney and his fellow officers the very best of luck in the year to come.
Among the recent prizewinners were: Eugene Rafferty (AWGS), T Dolan (Christmas Hamper), Bernie Watson (12-hole), and Gerry Rowlands (15-hole).
We finish in Carrick-on-Shannon with news that last weekend’s Winter Alliance Christmas Hamper was cancelled due to the weather but it is hoped that it can go ahead this Saturday.
People Sport wishes all golfers, officials and sponsors across the county and beyond a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year.
Darts
Rushe to the top!
Young Roscommon darter, Tomas Rushe, is certainly making a name for himself on the international scene. Last weekend he took part in the Junior World Darts Championships in Bristol. He was unlucky to lose out in round one on Saturday and can count himself very unfortunate not to have qualified from his group in Sunday’s round robin.
Swimming
