The late Jackie Cleary

  There was widspread shock and sadness in the Castlerea area at news of the death on March the 8th last of one of the area’s best-known and most popular residents, Mr. Jackie Cleary.   Aged in his 70’s, the late Jackie Cleary was a well-known retailer in Knockroe over many years and he was also very well-known in GAA circles. Jackie played for his beloved Castlerea St. Kevins for many years and he captained St. Kevins to win the Roscommon SFC in 1967 and also played county junior and senior football with Roscommon in the 50’s and 60’s.   The huge crowds who attended his removal and requiem mass were an indication of the esteem that Jackie Cleary was held in locally and throughout the country.   Many tributes have been paid to the late Jackie Cleary over the past two weeks since his untimely death. Mr. Cleary is mourned by his brother Seamus, his sister Mary Agnes, further relatives and his many friends. A dheis de go raibh a anam.
