The Gate Escape!

Cemetery committee celebrates return of stolen property

The Rathmoyle Cemetery Committee was celebrating some unlikely good news this week as its entrance gates, which were reported stolen last month, turned up in a forest near Elphin!

The gates, which had only been installed within the last two years, were reported missing by locals on Sunday, February 14th.

The silver gates were discovered earlier this week after the environmental section of Roscommon County Council carried out an inspection of illegal dumping on forestry ground between Elphin and Carrick-on-Shannon. The gates were found among the rubbish and appear undamaged.

The Rathmoyle Cemetery Group thanked the local community for their help following the discovery after its members were contacted by Castlerea Gardaí with the good news.

Local Fine Gael Cllr. Liam Callaghan said he was delighted with the news and said the committee hoped to have the gates reinstalled this week.
